My family was asked to review Tom's of Maine Natural Care Toothpaste. This particular product of Tom's is an anticavity fluoride toothpaste for children--our flavor was called Silly Strawberry.
The lack of artificial colors in this product keeps it natural--you'll notice that it's actually an off-white paste even though it is strawberry flavored? The ingredient list on the box says this toothpaste is flavored with fruit extracts of strawberry, banana, and other natural flavors, as well as "carrageenan (Chondrus crispus) (seaweed)..." Eh? There's seaweed in the toothpaste? Maybe that's why it's 'silly'? Certainly natural!
I put together this little video of my two youngest kiddos trying out the new tube in a creative way. They are 7 & 5. And yes my house is always this loud.
For the sake of the review, I did try the toothpaste as well. It actually tastes like a strawberry/cherry combo and for that reason, I'd never be able to use it again. [I have a severe adversion to anything cherry flavored as it only reminds me of cough syrup I was forced to take as a child when sick. See what you've done to me Mom? I can never eat cherry-flavored candy, cough drops, mixed drinks, and now, I can't use Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry flavored toothpaste.]
The kids liked it about as much as their regular toothpaste and I feel good knowing they're using a natural product without artificial colors or flavors.

My kids enjoy brushing their teeth, so there's no real coaxing involved. I think they enjoy their character toothbrushes (Spongebob and "Cars"). They're not crazy about flossing, though.

Honestly, I still brush their teeth. We have brushes that blink to tell you how long you have to brush. I do the first blink and then they get to do the second.
It is the only way to make sure that it gets done and I don't get a $300 bill at the dentist :P

Cyrena has a fun character toothbrush but we still brush her teeth ourselves! She just likes to watch in the mirror. :)
We have a "singing toothbrush" lol. It sings the ABC's and you have to keep brushing as long as the song plays- it's awesome. makes it fun for the kids too :)
I just say time to brush your teeth. They are really good about it. To make sure Aaron does it long enough we will sing the abcs.
My grandson has a whale toothbrush and, even though I can't stand the guy, Sponge Bob toothpaste. I tasted it once, and believe me, the all natural Tom's would HAVE to be better! And coaxing? It's simply, "We don't (go anywhere or read our bedtime book) until the teeth are clean!" Tough Grandma!
We don't have kids yet, but I'd definitely want to buy an all natural toothpaste - seaweed, yum!! :)

We're pretty lucky I guess. Our 3 year old son brushes his teeth without much of a fight most of the time. Usually, it's more of a fight that it's time for bed.

okay well my kids arent like any of these other bloggers.. I have to constantly remind them 2 times a day (sometime more since they dont listen half the time!!) Thats how I get them to do it.. I nag them to death! HA.. but my kids do like fun toothbrushes and they also like the mouth wash that tells you how much yuk is on your teeth, then you have to brush it away... I like your review and am interested to buy this! Natural is always good!
My kids actually like it most of the time. But they do go through stages and the best thing I've done to "trick" them is to let them brush my teeth at the same time-works wonders.

Actually by letting her pick her toothbrush and toothpaste she liked the battery operated so she enjoyed it.
I just tell my son his teeth will fall out, or that we have to brush to get the bugs out of his mouth. ;) Thankfully, he doesn’t ever put up a fight. I let him brush first, then I check them and get the “missed” spots.

It's always a battle getting my kids to brush their teeth. We have tried all the fun tooth brushes and it doesn't help...maybe strawberry toothpaste will!
Oh I hates brushing my kids teeth. Gavin is getting better about me brushing, but he seems to have ticklish gums or something. With Logan I make him brush and then come see me and I'll give them an extra little scrub (I noticed he wasn't doing them enough).
My 2 yr old quadruplets actually love to brush their teeth. I think it's a game to them. We started brushing at a young age and I think that has helped!

I bought the light-up toothbrushes. These toothbrushes light up and when they go off the kids are finished brushing. The kids love these toothbrushes and I like that the light keeps the kids brushing.

This is a little on the horrible side, but I've told my son that if he does not brush his teeth "the bugs" will get into his mouth (bugs meaning plaque, but bugs seems to have a better impact). Since there has been some commercials on TV showing the plaque bugs crawling around in some persons mouth, that has reinforced things. Whatever anyone may think, my son has excellent teeth brushing routine and beautiful teeth.

I have quadruplet toddler boys who are just now "cutting their teeth" on tooth brushing. We simply called the toothpaste a "treat" and that was all it has taken. They remind me to do it now. Don't know how long that will last, but so far so good!

When my sons were young (they are now 16 and 21), I tried all kinds of different toothpastes and found that Tom's Strawberry flavored was their favorite. I never had any trouble getting them to brush because they liked the flavor.

I have two little boys, and hygiene isn't always high on their list of priorities, so we just have to make sure that we remind them to do those basics like brush their teeth, floss, wash hands often, use soap in the shower (yes, we have to). My oldest son really likes his electric toothbrush, so we get him his favorite characters and that helps him want to brush his teeth.

I think one of the best ways to get kids interested in brushing is to get them a fun toothbrush. Whether it be their favorite color, a fun color or feature a cool tv character, everything is more fun when it LOOKS fun! :)

My little one is a Disney Princess fan so I tell her the Princesses use the same paste...and voila...job's done!
For our younger kids each time they brush, we reward with sticker , when they save up enough stickers, we give them a small reward.. it could be the leader of game night or a pick a movie for movie night.

My kids love brushing, but the whole family has horrible teeth anyway. To help things along, my oldest takes a toothbrush in her lunchbox and does a quick brush with just water after lunch. At home, we let both kids have a turn first, then it's momma or daddy's turn to brush. They feel independent, but we get to make sure it's done right!

No singing, character toothbrushes, or rewards are necessary. Thanks to the educational efforts of her dentist, dental hygienist, and school health teacher, my daughter readily brushes, flosses, and rinses.

Since I don't have children of my own, I'll share my friend's story. She bought her children toothbrushes that play music, and when the music stops, the children can stop brushing their teeth. Its really a neat idea. And the kids love it!

would you believe my secret weapon is food coloring?
I have them open their mouths and add a drop or two of food coloring under the tongue. Tell them to swish it around their mouth and spit it out. Rinse with water. Ask them to smile while looking into the mirror
Now brush! I have them brush until all of the color is gone. Brush the tongue too. Carefully inspect your child's teeth for any remaining color. If there is still color, then this is a place that wasn't thoroughly brushed. Just re-brush that spot.

One thing we did to get our kids to brush was to use the pills they chew that leaves the pink residue on their teeth. It shows where they needed to brush. They found it really fun to try and scrub it all off.

I don't have my own children but I tell the kids I watch that brushing your teeth is the "in" thing that teenagers love to do. They want to be cool like the older kids so it's pretty easy to get them to brush! I also brush with them so we make a game out of it.
